Oh The Brutality of Irony
So, a few days back, potential First Lady Melania Trump gave a speech. In this speech, she noted that she had decided on her focus issue. Michelle Obama had healthy eating. Laura Bush had literacy. Hillary Clinton had villages. Melania explained to the audience her focus. And, honestly, it is a good and noble one. With one leeeeettle twist. Melania said this:
“Our culture has gotten too mean and too violent. It is never OK when a 12-year-old girl or boy is mocked, bullied or attacked. It is terrible when that happens on the playground and it is unacceptable when it’s done by someone with no name hiding on the internet.”
Yeah. Our society has gotten mean. Mocking and bullying online is terrible. She seemed genuinely oblivious to the obvious fact that her husband bullies people on Twitter with great regularity. And hell, he does it with his name proudly…he bullies not behind the mask of anonymity, but cheerfully under his own name. He is everything she is denouncing. So, stopping cyber-bullying begins at home, Melania.
Of course, then this weekend came this story. Which totally explains why I have not seen any of my social media flooded with “Did you see this Tweet from Donald Trump?!” in the last couple of days.
