By the way, the Holiday Tree in Rhode Island debacle culminated in some folks interrupting the ceremony for the lighting of a pagan symbol by singing a secular holiday song to protest not calling it a Christmas Tree.

The amount of ignorance about Christmas customs in the country is astounding. We didn’t even HAVE Christmas trees, until Queen Victoria made it fashionable, after marrying Prince Albert, since having trees was a distinctly German custom. A Pagan custom at that. Nor did they celebrate Christmas much in the Colonial days, as the Puritans had moved here to get away from all that Christmas claptrap in merrie olde Englande.
However, if you mention any of this to people, they get very annoyed. With YOU.
And as the piece notes, the Republican gov called it a Tree Lighting Ceremony too. It’s not religion, it’s political correctness!
