At the Heart Of Liberalism Is A Hatred For God
So, Republican Representative Todd Akins recently made some headlines.
Recently, NBC left out the Under God in a recitation of the pledge. This caused an uproar. I admit, I am not sure why it does, as the Under God” was forcefully added to to the Pledge in the 1950’s to seperate us from the godless commies. He was a guess of Tony Perkins (not the actor) on the Family Research Council’s weekly radio show/webcast. This discussion happened:
PERKINS: Why would NBC do this?
AKIN: Well, I think NBC has a long record of being very liberal, and at the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God and the belief that government should replace God. And so they’ve had a long history of not being at all favorable toward many of the things that have been such a blessing to our country. You know, Tony, that the phrase Under God was taken as a result of a sermon …
I’ve always had a problem with the whole “They hate God” mentality. First, plenty of liberals are Christians, and love and serve God. Just because they don’t pander to paranoid reactions to “wars on Christmas” and “Under God in the Pledge” does not mean they hate God. Liberal atheists do not hate God…they simply do not believe God exists. Anyways, after a bit of a dust up, Todd made everything better by apologizing.
Actually, first he said he felt he had nothing to apologize for. Then later he clarified:
“People, who know me and my family, know that we take our faith and beliefs very seriously. As Christians, we would never question the sincerity of anyone’s personal relationship with God. My statement during my radio interview was directed at the political movement, Liberalism not at any specific individual. If my statement gave a different impression, I offer my apologies.”
Ah yes. The deep committment to Christ requires you to lie about people. Gotcha, Rep Akin.
Making hateful and nasty assumptions about people is supposed to be…Christian?
Wasn’t Jesus, um, the ULTIMATE liberal?
Just askin’.
Heh. To a modern Right-wing Christian, Jesus would just be another dirty damned hippie.
