I Confess…

One of the Palin criticisms leveled counfounds me.  The “Religious Freak one.  Plenty of people appeal to it on the left.  Bill Maher made a big deal about it on Real Time.  Uh, Obama has made great pains to make it clear he believes in God…and has talked about faith’s influence and even stated a plan for faith based initiatives(!).  Which leaves me wondering about this disconnect for some folks.  I mean, I thought it was decided during the Reverend Wright debacle that we do not assume that a person automatically believes evertything their pastor does?  Yet, now the left is doing exactly what the right did.  “Look at what her church believes!”  And yet Janeane Garafalo had the audacity to claim that Democrats are fundamentally more decent people than Republicans.  On the other hand, I know conservatives who like to claim that the liberals are the only ones who lie and fight dirty.  If you really believe either one?  I have a new bridge in Minnesota to sell ya.

Both sides are selfish.  Both sides are more interested in winning than making the country a truly better place.  Some of the biggest assholes I know are democrats and fellow liberals.  Some of the dirtiest tactics have come from the right.  To suggest one side is fundamentally more decent is frankly living with blinders.

I’ve said it before…focus on the facts in criticisms, not spin and rumors.

  1. Obama believes in God, yes, but Palin believes that the Earth is 4000 years old and dinosaurs didn’t exist. There’s a difference between having healthy religious belief and using your beliefs to deny reality. Criticizing her religious beliefs is fair game.

As for Obama’s support of faith-based initiatives, that’s one of the biggest things I resent about him.

  2. Er…when has Palin said dinosaurs didn’t exist? Or that she thinks the earth is 4,000 years old?

If she is a young earther, she most likely believes dinosaurs existed, and that they walked the earth alongside humans. But would believe the earth is around 10,000 years old.

However, this is the *only* quote I can find by Palin on the dinosaurs and stuff…
“God made dinosaurs 4,000 years ago as ultimately flawed creatures, lizards of Satan really, so when they died and became petroleum products we, made in his perfect image, could use them in our pickup trucks, snow machines and fishing boats. Now, as to the ANWR, Todd and I often enjoying caribou hunting and one year we shot up a herd big time, I mean I personally slaughtered around 40 of them with my new, at the time, custom Austrian hunting rifle. And guess what? That caribou herd is still around and even bigger than ever. Caribou herds actually need culling, be it by rifles or wolves, or Exxon-Mobil oil rigs, they do just great!”

Except, Palin never said that…it was made up by this guy:

It actually matches up with what Matt Damon asks, which causes me to suspect he was sent this quote by someone and believed it was a real quote. Beyond this, I see no proof she believes dinosaurs never existed, or anything of that nature. Her religious views are open to criticism-as are Obama’s. But it should be based on what she believes, not hearsay, or what her pastor said.
